Winter Barley

Winter Barley

Winter barley has many positive qualities. It gives the grain of the new harvest up to 10-14 days earlier than winter wheat, spring barley and other grains. The grain contains 12% of protein, 75% of carbohydrates, 2.1% of fat. 1 kg of grain contains 1.2 of feed units and 100 g of digestible protein. They use it for animal feed, production of cereals in the brewing industry. However, the varieties of winter barley do not yet satisfy the needs of the food industry because of the quality of grain.

Barley is better digested by animals than oats. When feeding barley to dairy cows, they give milk, that is perfect for making excellent butter. A small amount of barley in the mixture of animal feed contributes to the rehabilitation and improvement of cattle endurance. Barley is a good feed for the fattening of the pigs.

The structure of the protein complex consists of more than 20 amino acids, 8 of them are irreplaceable. Barley protein is more complete than other crops, but contains too small amount of lysine - 2.5-3.2%.

Barley is also valuable because it gives the crop in areas with cool, wet climates where corn and soybeans do not grow, or they give much smaller harvest in this kind of conditions.

Winter barley is almost always multi-row, spring is mostly double-row.
