Corn

Corn

Corn is one of the most valuable forage crops. It exceeds the yield of all grain crops. The grain is used in the food (20%), technical (15-20%) and forage purposes (60-65%). According to the content of feed units, maize grain exceeds oats, barley, rye.
Corn is the main silo culture. The yield of green mass of corn is higher than almost all the other fodder crops. One hundredweight of silage made from corn in the phase of milky-wax ripeness corresponds to 0.22-0.24 feed units, and a wax - 0,28-0,32 feed units. The content of digestible protein is about 1.4-1.8 kg. Corn silage has good digestibility and dietary properties and is rich in carotene.
Corn cobs, silaged in the waxy or milky-waxy ripeness are a valuable concentrated feed. One hundredweight of it contains up to 40 feed units and 2.6 kg of protein.
Corn is extremely essential in the green conveyor, providing livestock with green mass, which is rich in carbohydrates and carotene. One hundredweight of green mass of corn, collected before throwing of the panicles, contains 16 feed units.
